It is almost always a combination of things — too much software competing for resources, hardware that is aging or failing, or background processes consuming power that should be going to the task in front of you. Too Many Startup Programs:

Every time you install software, it quietly adds itself to your startup list. Over months and years, this list grows until your PC is launching dozens of programs the moment you press the power button — most of which you never use. This is one of the most common reasons for a pc running slow right from boot, and it is also one of the easiest to fix without touching any hardware.

Low RAM or RAM Failure:

RAM is your PC’s short-term memory. When it runs out, Windows starts using your hard drive as a substitute — a process called paging — which is dramatically slower. If you are running 4GB of RAM on a modern Windows 11 machine, pc slow performance is almost guaranteed, especially with a browser open. Partially failed RAM causes even worse slowdowns because the system constantly retries failed read and write operations in the background.

Failing or Nearly Full Hard Drive:

A traditional hard drive (HDD) that is more than 85% full slows down significantly because it struggles to find contiguous space to write new data. More seriously, a drive with developing bad sectors causes your computer running slow because the system repeatedly retries reading data from damaged areas before giving up and moving on.

Outdated Windows or Drivers:

Running an outdated version of Windows or using old device drivers creates compatibility issues and security overhead that slows everything down. Outdated GPU drivers in particular cause system-wide sluggishness because the operating system falls back to generic display rendering, which is far more CPU-intensive.

Too Many Background Processes:

Beyond startup programs, many applications continue running invisible background processes even after you close them — update checkers, cloud sync tools, antivirus scans, telemetry services. Open Task Manager on any neglected PC and it is common to find 80 to 100 background processes running simultaneously.

Overheating — CPU Throttling:

When a CPU gets too hot, it automatically reduces its own speed to prevent permanent damage — this is called thermal throttling. From the user’s perspective, it looks exactly like a slow computer. Your pc slow performance may not be a software problem at all — it may be a CPU running at 40% of its rated speed because the heatsink is clogged with dust

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I hired this company to fix my computer, they did come to collect and work on it. However we had a verbal agreement that they would accept payment when the job was done. I tursted them and paid them early as the issue seemed simple by their explination. In the end they had to contaxt the manufacture to use the warrenty, which i could do myself. I arranged the warrenty meaning Thor Computer LTD did not finish the job, and when I asked for a partial return of my money they said no. If you hire them please have in writing any payment agreement and do not give them money until your work is done.
